ArUco Marker Boards for Demanding Machine Vision Applications
Our ArUco marker boards are manufactured to tight flatness and pattern tolerances, since even small surface deformation or pattern drift directly degrades corner-detection accuracy and pose estimation, especially at the longer working distances and larger marker sizes these boards are built for. A rigid, dimensionally stable panel keeps the printed pattern flat and precisely positioned over its full service life, indoors or outdoors.
ArUco markers are binary square fiducial markers used for camera pose estimation: each marker's four corners provide sufficient correspondence points to compute position and orientation in 3D space from a single frame, without needing multiple reference points scattered across a scene. Their inner binary codification not only assigns each marker a unique ID but also enables built-in error detection and correction, so markers can still be identified correctly even if a few bits are misread. This combination of simplicity, speed, and robustness has made ArUco the standard choice for augmented reality overlays, robot and drone navigation, SLAM, tool and fixture tracking, and automated process monitoring on the factory floor. Mounted on a rigid board, markers also become ideal fixed reference points for camera calibration, survey targets, and permanent positioning references in a facility or outdoor site.
ArUco detection is built directly into the two most widely used computer vision toolchains: OpenCV provides the dedicated ArucoDetector class for marker detection and solvePnP() for pose estimation, while MATLAB's Computer Vision Toolbox offers the readArucoMarker function for detecting markers and estimating their 3D pose directly from an image. Because both platforms support the standard ArUco dictionaries natively, our boards integrate directly into existing detection and calibration pipelines without custom decoder code.
Each set uses the DICT_5x5_1000 dictionary, a 5x5-bit encoding with 1000 unique IDs that offers a strong balance between marker count, detection robustness, and inter-marker distance, making it well-suited for the vast majority of applications straight out of the box. Need a different bit size, dictionary, or marker ID range for your specific setup? We can make any adjustment to the ArUco markers, just contact us.
